Prior Experience:

Elected into the Delaware State Senate in 2020 (first transgender state senator in U.S. history), Chair of the Delaware General Assembly Health & Social Services committee, a member of the Corrections & Public Safety, Housing, Judiciary, and Veterans Affairs committees, served as the national spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, joined the board of directors of Equality Delaware in 2013, interned at the White House working in the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs in 2012, elected Student Body President at American University in 2011, worked as a staffer on Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden’s campaign in 2010, worked as a staffer on Governor Jack Markell’s campaign in 2008.

Issues and Positions

Expand health care while lowering the cost, ultimately wanting to achieve universal healthcare coverage. 

Fight for reproductive rights and supporting pro-choice legislation and increasing coverage for pre and post pregnancy care. 

Increase not only the federal minimum wage, but all wages to give citizens a livable income, basic benefits and protections, and ensure they can care for their families. 

Work with and support unions through legislation to strengthen and rebuild the middle class. 

Support regulations in favor of criminal justice reforms that move to protect citizens equally, end mass incarceration, and expunge convictions. 

Rescue our environment through investments in renewable energy, green technology, less gas emissions, and more sustainable lifestyles. 

Install gun restrictions such as banning of assault weapons, stronger background checks, and more precautionary steps when purchasing a gun. 

Use technology to implement stronger financial security around privacy to build trust between consumers and banks, protect personal data, and promote innovation in the banking field. 

Keep democracy alive by making voting more accessible and protected to ensure all voices are heard. 

Pass paid family and medical leave, access to affordable childcare, supporting educators to create strong public schools, students are able to enter the workforce/college with more practical options (not a singular path, not going into debt).
